House Hunting

via

Charlie and I are in desperate need of a house to rent (we absolutely cannot buy a house).  If you follow me on twitter, you may know some of this already...

The first house we looked at was adorable, and the mean woman gave it away to someone else (I mentioned that before).

Then we looked at a bunch of dumps... like holes in the walls, in the floors, dirty dirty dirty.

Then we found a house that was for sale by owner and she said she would rent it and we really liked it.... A little out of our price range but wonderful.  She has yet to send us the application to rent it and that was a week ago.

Then we looked at some more dumps.  And some tiny places.  And I found a house I liked that was out of our price range.

Then today, we looked at a house (Charlie practically harassed the guy to let us see it first).  We jumped on it, and he said he had to show all the other people that were lined up too and we would know Monday if he would rent it to us.

This afternoon we found a house online that we haven't seen, but it is two doors down from the house I loved that was out of our price range.  It looks adorable, but is more than the house that we saw this morning (but also seems to be cuter and has a deck).  So now we are trying to go see that house tomorrow before we find out Monday about the other house.

My criteria isn't super crazy-  clean, a kitchen bigger than the shoebox I cook in now, adequate storage, a fenced in backyard, not in a scary neighborhood.  Would like 3 bedrooms (need an office).  Would like our furniture to fit.

I hate house hunting.  For real.  It would be so much easier if we were buying.  I'm just ready to get somewhere.  Has anyone else had crazy problems with finding a place to live?  The stress is killing me!!

Friday Favorites

I started Friday Favorites a few weeks ago, and then took a break because of one crazy puppy and his crazy older brother.  But I am hoping that I can continue to do Friday favorites, and I am hoping you will join me!  Let me know if you post your Friday Favorites and I'll link your post on my Friday favorites post as well!  This week, its all about girly things and warm weather!

Curveball

I have taken a 2 week break from my Friday Favorites, but hope to get back to it next week.  Won't you join me?

Two weeks ago, things were a lot different.  Charlie and I were both working a lot, but we were happy, settled and planning a trip for our upcoming one year anniversary to Savannah, GA.  And then we were hit with a curveball.  An 8 pound curveball we are now calling Scout.

Meet Scout!!
Yes, friends, Buddy is a a big brother!!  Scout was in no way planned, and we didn't go out looking for him.  He is actually a rescue of sorts.  Someone I work with was driving home from work (in a really bad area), and this little guy ran out into the middle of the street and got... bumped.  Long story short, she didn't have the money (or desire) to take him in and was going to take him to a shelter (he didn't have a collar and no one came looking for him in the hour plus that she was there).  So, I had her take him to my vet, said I would pay for everything and we were going to find him a nice home...

That is until Charlie went to pick him up the next day and fell in love with him.  So the nice home we found him was our home.  And now we have two babies.  And we are trying to find a house to rent, which is proving to be a disaster.

Buddy and Scout, the night Scout came to live with us

They napped together.

Want to know why puppies are so cute?  Because they are SO BAD.  Scout is into everything.  Plus he is so little that he kind of gets lost, and then gets into trouble.  Like chewing on cords and having secret poops.  He is also quite into biting human flesh, especially mine.

Scout has quickly learned to love the fridge...
And it was so cute that instead of yelling at him, I grabbed my camera.
He also likes to get in the dirty clothes, drag the leashes around and
pull the bathroom rug out into the hall.

Buddy and Scout are getting along well, though.   It was love at first sight for Scout, but Buddy was a little unsure.  But over the past week, Buddy has definitely grown fond of him.  They play and run.  But they really need a backyard.

If you follow me on twitter, then you may know that we found an awesome house, decided to rent it, set up a time to move, told our apartment we were leaving and set up a time to give the woman the deposit and then she rented it to someone else.  I had planned a vicious internet attack where I put her name, picture and phone number up to let everyone know how evil she was, but I have calmed down some.  Now we can't find a house that 1. we can afford and 2. isn't a dump.

Fingers crosses we find a house soon.  These two crazy dogs need a backyard REALLY bad.  Or they may just tear the apartment down...

Oh and he loves to get under furniture too... like the couch and the bed.
Oh, and we are no longer planning a trip to Savannah in the near future.  All of our money is going toward new puppy, Buddy and hopefully to house renting. Also, Scout didn't have any broken bones.  He was bruised badly, but nothing broken.  He did walk with the most adorable limp for about a week.  Limp is gone now, sadly.  The limp made me not as mad when he was trying to eat off my toes and biting my face and hair...

Closet Makeover

I know that my apartment is far from being done, but one area that needed some serious TLC was my closet.  When we moved in, we pretty much threw my clothes and shoes in and thats about it.  I didn't have any sort of rhyme or reason to the way it was organized (or not organized), and in the last few months, it has gotten even worse.
Note:  I am pretty embarrassed to show these before pics, but I feel it is necessary.

Disaster Zone
So after two hours of cleaning (yes 2 hours), I have come up with the ultimate how to organize your closet.

1.  Take all empty hangers out.
I don't know if you are like me, but I take something off the hanger and leave the empty hanger.  Instead, take the empty hanger out and keep hangers in a basket in your closet.

2.  Weed out- anything you think you won't wear or haven't worn recently.  The exception to this (for me), is special dresses that are nicer (like "Going Out" dresses).  I don't go out much, but I hope to be able to go out again some day.
Create different piles with the clothes you don't want or that need something-  throw away (for the things that are beyond repair like my striped Express sweater with giant holes...), Good Will, Give to others, Needs repairs (button missing, etc, or maybe they need to be ironed or altered).

3.  Create a system that works for you.
Some people like their spring/ summer clothes separate from their fall/ winter clothes.  Others organize by color, type of clothing, etc.
I chose to go by type of clothing.  All of my dresses are together.  All of my skirts are together.

Dresses
4.  Put away things that you know you won't be wearing for a while, if you have room to store it.
For me, this meant winter sweaters.  I have 2 shelves in my closet.  On the top shelf, I put heavy winter sweaters.  On the lower shelf, light sweaters and cardigans.  I did hang my favorite cardigans for easy access- I wear them every day.

5.  Get your shoes in order.
I try to keep my shoes in their boxes (for the most part).  Some of my shoes don't have boxes (like my flats from Gap).  Those are the ones that tended to end up on the floor...

I lined my no box shoes on top of shoes in boxes
I also organized by how much I wear the shoes, for easy access

6.  Keep it that way... the hardest part.  I start out with good intentions, and then life takes over...  But look how pretty it looks now!

So much better!

Friday Favorites

I've decided to start something new here on Fridays- Friday Favorites.  Its a time for me to share things I am loving right now.  And I'd love for you to join!  I know it costs money now to do the linky thing, but you can comment with your Friday favorites post link, or if you let me know a day ahead of time, I will include your Friday favorites in my post, and you can include mine in yours!

I don't have a button worked up for this yet, but hopefully if it catches on, we can get one!  So I'd love for you to participate!

1.  Tilly Maison Big One Chervon Striped Serving tray:  I've decided I really want this tray for my coffee table.  Then I can have something cute to hold our coasters, etc.

2.  Banana Republic Slubby Tees:  These are my new favorite tees.  So soft and cute, I'm kind of obsessed.

3.  The Rhythm of Love:  Currently my favorite song.  I am a big Plain White Tee's fan anyway.  Their first CD was awesome.

4.  Vanilla Cupcakes:  I made this recipe from Stay Calm Cupcake, and it was pretty much the best vanilla cupcakes ever.  The hubs says that Jill has Martha (Stewart) beat with this recipe.  I plan to blog more about these soon.

What are your Friday Favorites?
