Friday Favorite: Fashion Week Edition

Happy Friday friends!  For my Friday Favorites, I am showcasing my favorite runway show from New York Fashion Week!

Any guesses which show it is?

Now, I love Ralph Lauren and all, but normally I wouldn't put him as one of my top favorite designers.  But his collection was AMAZING.  Very roaring 20s and I loved it!!  Feathers and sequins and cute little hats.  So glamourous and girly.

What were your favorite shows from the week?  Did I mention any of your faves?  Did I leave out some you loved?

Fashion Week Part 3

It is day 3 of my fashion week recap!  What have you thought about days 1 & 2?

Today is fashions by some of my favorite ladies-  Rachel Zoe, Tory Burch and Victoria Beckham.  I adore just about everyone from every one of these amazing ladies!

It was only a matter of time before this fab fashionista stylist came out with her own line.  And I love it.  I have a weird obsession with her too.  I die.  (If only I could watch her show... if only I had Bravo!)

\

I love Tory Burch.  'nough said  :)

Oh Posh!  How do I love thee... let me count the ways!  She was my favorite Spice Girl, before that handsome David Beckham married her and made her Mrs. Beckham.  They are the cutest couple with the cutest kiddos.  She too will be in my favorite fashionistas, don't you worry!

What looks do you love?   For my Friday Favorites,  I am recapping my favorite show!  Stay tuned!

Fashion Week Part 2

Welcome to the second part of my fashion week recap! In keeping with my love of girly fashion, today I am sharing with you looks from Lela Rose, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Marchesa, Milly and Oscar de la Renta.

I am such a Lela Rose fan!!  She is so fantastic and girly!  I used to work for a high end store and there was a Lela Rose trunk show (no, she wasn't there... cause I'd totally have my picture taken with her if she was), and I bought an actual Lela Rose dress (employees got a heck-a good discout).  I still have it and wear it.  How cute is it that her dog is named Stitch.  Obviously the Matchbook with her on the cover was like so exciting for me!

I have a slightly strange obsession with Georgina Chapman, and I have absolutely no idea.  I am planning a series soon about my favorite fashionistas, and she is totally on the list, so I will go into more detail later about her!  But everything by Marchesa is absolutely stunning.  If I were famous and going to a big event, I would want to wear Marchesa.

Hello, Blair Waldorf.  What else can I say?

What do you think about this group of designers?  Were you loving or hating the looks?

Fashion Week Part 1

If you follow me on Twitter (@nikkihodum), then you might know that I really want to go to fashion week someday.  I was reading all the tweets about fashion week all last week and kept saying "I just want to be there!"  Someday, I will be... until then, I go on style.com and look at all the images from the show.

For spring, there seems to be a lot of bright colors (Jill Stuart had the most fantastic colors!), a lot of color blocking, and lots of fun patterns.  Also, I am happy to see that more feminine, girly looks seem to be resurfacing.  I had lots of shows that I really liked, so I am breaking up my fashion week recap with a series of my favorite looks from fashion week.

Up first:  Alice + Olivia, Cynthia Steffe, Diane von Furstenburg and Jill Stuart

I just love Alice + Olivia.  The dresses are always so adorable and I love the full skirts!

Jill Stuart was definitely one of my top favorite shows.  The colors were so vibrant and the dresses were really amazing (can you tell that for me, its all about the dresses?)

kate spade Fall 2011

I am super excited about the new kate spade fall campaign!  Have you seen it?  Its gorgeous!!  Bryce Dallas Howard is featured again and she looks stunning!

It reminds me of the 1950s/ early 1960s... like Mad Men and The Help.  It seems that era is really making a comeback

Now I'd like to introduce you all to my new love...

Meet Bow Bridge Kennedy.  She is $445 but I feel I must have her.  Perhaps I shall start selling our furniture secretly or selling my blood... I NEED this purse.  Isn't she lovely?

Note to friends and family:  I do have a birthday coming up.  And Christmas is just around the corner...

She also comes in grey

Backing Up

Are any of you Sex and the City fans?  I feel some of you are.  Remember that episode when Carrie's computer becomes a sad mac and it crashes, and she loses everything?

via
Welcome to my life.

The other night (I do believe it was Monday night), I was laying in bed working on my laptop (as I do every single night), when something weird happened... it was like it was frozen, but the mouse still moved.  I'd click on something... nothing.  Click... nothing.

So I turned it off and turned it back on.  Same thing happened.  Click... nothing.  So I turned it off and back on again thinking it just needed a little rest.  I left it alone for a little while (ok, actually Charlie took the computer away from me because I was getting panicy and he instructed me not to touch it until he said so).  When I turned it back on, it had a grey screen like when it is turning on, but it just spun and spun and never opened.

WTF???

SO then I had a nervous breakdown.  Full on nervous break down.  I googled trying to fix it... tried all the troubleshooting.  I carried it around like a crazy person...  I didn't wrap it in a pashmina a la Carrie Bradshaw, but I was terribly distraught.

I sent Charlie to the apple store the next morning with baby laptop, with strict instructions to call me when he heard something.

I had a really sad Mac.  To be specific, a dead hard drive.  And I had nothing backed up.  Yep, you heard me.  NOTHING BACKED UP.  I am off this weekend, and it was something I was planning on working on this weekend.

So basically, I've lost everything.  Luckily, I email a lot and gmail saves like everything.  So I salvaged some things I had sent (after I went and bought a heavy duty external hard drive with a 2 year protection plan).

My laptop is home safe with me now.  New hard drive.  Apparently, the Apple store doesn't do data recovery, so tomorrow morning I am going to buy an external adapter to try to pull off some data.  If that doesn't work, I'm pulling out the big guns and finding someone who can help me.

Note:  Carrie didn't have any luck saving her data, and I fear neither will I.

PS:  The moral of this story is to back up all your data.  Now.  Go do it.  Don't be like me.  Apparently computers die.

Fashion's Night Out

Tonight is Fashion's Night Out in NYC.  Ooh to be there!

Fashion's Night Out is a late night shopping night where celebrities and designers go to stores and everyone shops and you can meet the famous.  There are performances and special appearances... It is a giant party all to celebrate FASHION!  Basically, its like my heaven.  This is the third year for Fashion's Night out and its been growing exponentially since year one.

Now, there are places all over that have Fashion's Night out celebrations, but there is none like in NYC.  There is even an app for planning your FNO route!  I hope to someday be there for FNO.  Oh and then of course stay for Fashion week  :)

Here are some of the fantastic events and appearances taking place:

Ivanka Trump will be at Lord and Taylor
Tommy Hillfiger, Coco Rocha, Rachel Roy, Bobbi Brown, and Joss Stone performance  at Macys Herald Square
Milkshakes and Manolos at Manolo Blahnik
Michelle Trachtenburg and Hayden Panettierre at Stuart Weitzman
Leighton Meester (aka BLAIR from GG!) performance at Tiffanys

And here are just a few images from FNO 2010

And yes, you do see Anna Wintour, the Olson Twins, Kate Hudson and Marc Jacobs in there.

So I WILL go to Fashion's Night Out someday.  Anyone volunteering to take me next year?  We can start planning now!

Mud Fest

I've been meaning to post these pictures for a while, but I've been such a bad blogger lately.  I haven't even gotten ON blogger in like a week.  Apologies.  I am going to try to read some blogs tonight, but for any of you who still follow my bog, thanks and I love you!  I've been so insanely busy with Delightful Designs- working on holiday cards, new products for the shop, redesigning the blog and etsy shop, working on my website... I'm going to be in a holiday show and have a booth at a store!  So excited but so time consuming!

Anyways, about a month ago, the hubs and I were in bed and he let the dogs out to potty.  They usually go out around 8-ish for the last time (I of course was on my computer working).

After about 5 or 10 minutes, I said to Charlie, "Don't you think the dogs should come back in now?"
He agreed and went to let them in... when I heard

"HOLY SHIT.  GET IN HERE." (charlie)
Me: WHAT???
Charlie:  Just get in here
Me:  Is everything ok? Are they both alive?  Are any limbs missing?
Charlie:  Just get in here

I go running to the back door and see this.

The instigator

Yep, those are my dogs, COVERED in mud.  I stood there with my mouth open.  So then Charlie says, "Go get your camera."

All I could do was nod my head...

He posed for this picture.  He was so proud.

Like a pig in mud

They had so much fun in the mud.  It was disgusting.

"Look Mom! Look at me!!"

They were immediately (after the photo session) rushed in for long, hot baths.  Pretty sure Buddy was mad at Scout for making him take a bath.

Apparently we had a leak in the hose, which the boys made into a mud pit.
