Mad for Mad Men

Is everyone ready for Mad Men on Sunday??  Did you watch the premier last week??  Hubs and I had never seen Mad Men until this past summer when we started watching it on Netflix.  Now we are obsessed.  We watched the entire show and then anxiously awaited the arrival of the new season.

What did you think of last week's episode?

Can I just say that this jacket made my day?

Roger Sterling is so my favorite!

Who knew Don Draper could smile like that?

And then of course there is Zou Bisou Bisou...

You'd smile too, I suppose
via
That little number has made quite the stir, huh?

Is it just me, or does anyone miss Don and Betty?  Maybe just a little?

via
Betty would NEVER Zou Bisou Bisou, that is for sure!

I kind of love to hate Betty...

Ok lets discuss!  What did you think of the premier?  Who do you love?  Who do you hate?  And who do you love to hate?

Minty Fresh

I am loving all of the fresh mint colors popping up in the spring looks.  That yummy spearmint color can be found in skinny jeans, dresses, pretty pumps and ladylike skirts.

I am loving all of the different looks, but I am really wanting the Essie Nail polish (perfectly named Mint Candy Apple).  I think it is such a fun hint of mint for any outfit!  Plus being the nail polish junkie that I am, I must be adding this to the collection!

Will you be adding some mint to your wardrobe for spring? Or have you already?

Tuesday Shoesday

I'm starting a new weekly (hopefully) post called Tuesday Shoesday, where I am featuring a pair of shoes that I am currently obsessed with.  If I can't own them, then I can at least blog about them!  (And maybe someday own them :) )

My Tuesday Shoesday pick for this week is...

Anthropologie Gerber Flats

I am madly in love with these little flats.  I love the bow, I love the colors.  I think I need them in my life.  They would add a fabulous pop of color to any outfit!  Wear them with jeans, with a skirt, with a dress, with shorts... dress it up, dressed down, the possibilities are endless!!

And at $90, these fantastic flats won't break the bank (too much).

What is your Tuesday Shoesday pick?

Scalloped Edges

Has anyone noticed a trend that has been making its way into fashion these days?  I'm talking about scalloped edges.  I am loving the look and think it really adds a lot of dimension and fun to a pair of shorts, a skirt or whatever!

A Woman's Right to Shoes

"I'm talking about a Woman's Right to Shoes..."
-Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

I may not have lost my Manolos at a she free baby shower, but I do believe, like Carrie, that women have a right to shoes.  Its only right.  And I for one am a complete shoe fanatic, just like Ms. Bradshaw.

I must say, there are some fabulous shoes out there that I am absolutely lusting after (and not all of them are the price of Manolos).

Here are some of my very favorites that are on my wish list:

The Hunger Games: Review

So a few weeks ago I asked if any of you had read the Hunger Games.  Well, I have finished reading all 3, and if you haven't read them, go read them right now.  And then lets talk about them.

I was anxious to read them because the people that had read them seemed to be so crazy for them.  So I naturally was intrigued to see what all the hoopla was about.  I get it.  I TOTALLY get it.

It is a 3 book series and I finished the last one on Thursday night (late Thursday night).  And now that it is over, I am like a druggy having withdrawals.  Yep, its that good.

So for those of you who haven't read it, I am going to give you a little insight into the world of the Hunger Games.  And great news!  March 23 the movie comes out!!!

The three books in the series are The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

So the books take place in the future, but they aren't futuristic.
The backstory: At some point, a huge war in the United States breaks out and what we know of as the states are completely destroyed.  The country, now called Panem, is divided into 13 districts and is ruled by the all controlling Capital.  Then, there is a rebellion and District 13 is eliminated.  The districts are controlled very strictly by the capital and are basically made up of the rich and the poor.  No one can leave their district or really even move up in their district.

In order to remind the people of the the continual power of the Capital and to punish the people for the failed rebellion, every year the Hunger Games are held.  Each district sends 2 kids- a boy and a girl- into the games  (its called The Reaping, when the boy and girl are chosen from each district).  They are all put into a giant arena and must battle to the death until only one surviver remains.  (I am aware that this does sound sort of creepy, which it is, but you get past it).   All of this is televised for the entire country to watch. The people from the Capital make bets on who will win and it is their form of entertainment (like the Romans and the gladiators).

via
This is Katniss Everdeen, the main character in the Hunger Games.  She is from District 12, the mining district.  She is from the Seam, which basically means she is part of the poorest of the poor in the district. She hunts illegally to help provide for her family.  When Katniss's little sister Prim is chosen as a tribute for the Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place.

via
This is Peeta Mellark, the boy tribute for District 12.  He is the son of the baker.  Katniss and he share a link from the past, but thats all I am saying.

via
Gale Hawthorne is Katniss's best friend and hunting partner.  When Katniss leaves for the games, she asks Gale to take care of her mom and sister.

via
This is a scene from the Reaping, when Katniss volunteers for her sister Prim.

via
Katniss and Peeta before the games begin.

And that is all I am going to tell you about the books, other than you need to read them.  There is action and adventure, and a love story.  They are such good books!!

So are you going to go read them now?? If you want to talk about them, I'm totally ready for book club discussion!

And for those of you who have read them, what in the heck am I going to read now???

Chambray, you say?

So, I have a love/ hate relationship with denim shirts...  Most of the time I love them but sometimes I hate them.  When worn the right way, a chambray shirt can be such a fabulous piece- great with a dressy skirt, or worn in unexpected ways.  Not great when worn with, say, blue jeans.

It is an especially great for layering!

Don't have a chambray shirt, you say?  Perhaps you should pick one up!  They come in multiple washes!

Here are a few great pieces that would look fabulous with a chambray shirt!
