I think we can safely say it is officially patio weather. So now is the time to get your backyard /patio / porch / deck / balcony together so you can start enjoying it! I would love to show you amazing pictures of our screened in porch and deck area, but we started working on it a year ago and it still is no where near the end. This seems to be the case lately with all of our house projects. But some day I’ll be able to share the end result!
It is my personal opinion that during this time, your backyard is of the utmost (or upmost if you watch New Girl) importance. I don’t know about you, but we spend a lot of time outside and I want it to be our own little backyard oasis (someday). Maybe you want to throw a backyard BBQ and invite some friends over. Or maybe it is the place you retreat to after a long day of work.
Of course, what you can do all depends on your space. But even if you live in an apartment and only have a balcony you can totally make it your own little outdoor heaven.
So these are a few things that I suggest to create your own little backyard oasis.
Unless you are working with a tiny balcony, you have to have a table for people to be able to sit around, hang out and of course, eat. Even if you do have a balcony, you can do one of those little two seater bistro tables that would be perfect for morning coffee or a cozy date night in. You can opt for a full set or you can mix and match your table and chairs. We got a long table several years ago from Target, and then we got some chairs for one side and a bench for the other side (it was all part of the same collection). It is sort of similar to this set. I strongly suggest you spend a little bit of money on the table and chairs. It is going to be outside and you want it to last. So spend your money on this piece. I fell in love with this whole set recently and tried to convince Charlie we should get it. He disagreed.
Depending on if you have space, you might want to opt for a little bench somewhere. I am hoping once we get out screened in porch complete that we will have room for a small-ish bench like this.
For these chairs, I am not talking about what is around your table. If you don’t have room for a table or just need some extra seating around the yard, I really love adirondack chairs. They are super cute and comfortable too. You can get them at a variety of price points (but of course you do get what you pay for). They would look adorable next to a pool, if you are so lucky to have one (and if you do, could you invite me over please?)
Depending on the amount of shade you have and the area, you may want to consider a fun umbrella. It would be perfect for a little shade above your table. Or you could get one on a stand to put between to chairs in the yard.
Cushions and Pillows
Whether it is for your chairs at your table, your bench or other seating, you will probably want some cushions and pillows. They not only make things a little more comfortable, but they also provide some nice color and patterns. I wouldn’t spend a lot on these. Chances are you are going to be throwing them away after a year or two.
Bar / Bar cart
If you do a lot of entertaining, you might want to consider setting up a little outdoor bar or bar cart. They are super cute and a fun little addition. This bar cart isn’t very expensive and it comes in several colors (including lime and teal!). We bought a little stand up bar when we got our table and chairs a few years ago, and I can’t wait to make it a really cute little area. It looks a little like this one.
So those are some of my thoughts on getting your backyard summer ready. Is your backyard ready?
