Over Memorial Day weekend, I made the mistake of running by the outlet mall near our house to look at (and buy) a dress at J. Crew Factory. The mistake wasn’t going to the outlet mall. The mistake was telling my mom that I went. She then wanted me to send her a picture of what I bought. So I did. Then it was decided by her and my aunt that we would spend the next day at the mall.
I am really not an outlet shopper. I rarely find anything. In fact, we have lived in our house for almost a year, and I drive by the outlet every single day on my way to work and I have never gone. They just really aren’t my thing.
But that day, I found several things. In fact, my mom and my aunt found several things too. It was definitely a successful trip. If you watched my Instagram stories from that day (@nikkihodum), you saw the haul I brought home – 4 dresses and 2 shirts. And I could have done a lot more damage but I did practiced a little self control.
One of the things I bought was this shirt dress. I am all about gingham for summer, and I love the large, bold pattern. Plus, you can’t go wrong with a shirt dress. This one is light and comfy and perfect for the hot summer months. And I am thinking that this little dress will transition nicely into fall, when that time comes around – maybe add a pair of riding boots or booties, layer something long sleeve underneath it. I definitely can see this dress working in the fall, especially early fall.
It also comes in a colorful stripe, plaid and several solid colors, and I wouldn’t mind having them all! If you aren’t sure about a shirt dress because it isn’t fitted, I strongly suggest adding a belt to give it a little shape. This one would be super cute with a colorful belt.
How do you feel about shirt dresses? Love them? Hate them?
