If you are looking for a crazy good, lots of twist and turns, can’t put it down kind of book, I have got one for you! I recently finished The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine (a pen name for sisters Lynne and Valerie) , and let me tell you, it is all of those things and more! I had seen several people posting about it, and I had it on my to read list. But then Reese Witherspoon picked it as her bookclub pick for December, so I knew I had to read it ASAP. She always picks THE BEST books. (Another reason I just know we would be BFF if we ever met). I absolutely could not put this one down.
Amber Patterson is looking to get the life she believes she deserves. She deserves to have an easy life with a very rich and powerful husband and be the center of attention – the woman everyone wants to be friends with, and that is what she has set out to do. Amber targets the extremely wealthy Parrish family, befriending the wife Daphne in order to steal her husband Jackson. Daphne and Jackson seem to have the perfect marriage, an insane amount of money, and two adorable daughters. And Amber wants it all.
Amber pretends to have had a sick sister who died from the same disease that Daphne’s sister had. Daphne’s compassion allows Amber to insert herself into every part of their lives and making her Daphne’s closest friend – almost like the sister Daphne is missing. Their closeness allows Amber execute her seemingly flawless plan.
But we all know things aren’t always as they seem. And everyone has secrets. Amber is hiding her past, which could completely derail her plan if she is found out.
The Last Mrs. Parrish is all about deception, power and envy. And there are SO MANY twists and turns in this one. It was so good that I was telling my dad about it early on, and he wanted to hear the play by play every day of what I had read!
It is funny reading a book where you hate the main character. I mean, you are supposed to hate Amber, she is doing a terrible thing. But it is always interesting to be rooting against the narrator. The first half of the book is told from Amber’s perspective, so you really get an in depth look at her motivations and thoughts.
If you haven’t read The Last Mrs. Parrish, please go read it. And then we can talk about it. If you have read it, what did you think about it? And tell me – what are you reading now?
