I really love a good thriller and one of my favorite books that I have read recently was All the Missing Girls by Meghan Miranda. So, I was so excited to find out that she had a new book coming out The Perfect Stranger, another thriller and her second book.
Leah Stevens has recently moved to a rural Pennsylvania town after a chance meeting with her former roommate Emmy Grey to escape the life she left behind in Boston. Leah and Emmy both are looking to start a new life. Leah was a journalist, but after moving, took a teaching position at the local high school. Emmy is sort of a drifter, and was running from a relationship gone wrong, and took a night job at a motel.
But when a woman is found brutally assaulted (who looks very similar to Leah), the journalist in Leah can’t let the story go. And then, Leah realized that she hasn’t seen her roommate Emmy in several days. Leah reports her roommate missing, but quickly realized there is no trace of an Emmy Grey anywhere. Fearing the worst for her roommate and doubting her own sanity, Leah decides that she must figure out what happened to the first victim and to her roommate.
I really enjoyed The Perfect Stranger. There were lots of twists and turns, and it really kept me guessing. I will say I didn’t think it was quite as good as All The Missing Girls, but the only reason is because of the way that All the Missing Girls was written. It was written in reverse chronological order, which was really unlike any other thriller I had read, so it made it so incredibly unique. This one was much more straight forward (in the sense of timeline of the book). But still really really good.
I think Megan Miranda is a fantastic writer. She gives you just enough information, but also keeps you guessing, which I love.
