Local Lovin’: La Finestra

Welcome to this month’s edition of Local Lovin’. Laurel and I are sharing another favorite from Jackson.

My local lovin’ is actually a sad pick – my favorite restaurant in Jackson, La Finestra, is closing on Sunday. But I couldn’t not write about them. In my opinion, it is THE BEST restaurant in Jackson.

La Finestra (translates to “the window” in Italian) is located in downtown Jackson right across from the Governor’s mansion. It is an AMAZING Italian restaurant that focuses on local, in season ingredients. They also make their own pasta in the basement, which is so cool (if you don’t know, my family is Italian, and my dad makes his own pasta, so this is super impressive to me).

So when I heard they were closing this coming Sunday, I texted the hubs and insisted we go immediately. So we did. We had a fantastic meal.

I was a bad blogger and ate half of the food before I realized I didn’t take any pictures. We had flounder cakes for an appetizer which were amazing (and gone in like 5 seconds). Then we had ravioli stuffed with ricotta and salami (I did get a picture of that). Then I had flounder (which I took a picture of after I started eating), the hubs had pork and polenta. We shared brussel sprouts. And then for dessert we sharing the most amazing deconstructed tiramisu ever. (again, no picture…)

So, if you are in Jackson, or can get here, I highly recommend you get to La Finestra THIS WEEK. You will not regret it.

Now, head over to The Hive and check out Laurel’s Local Lovin’ pick for this month!

Happy Monday friends. Another weekend has come and gone, and I seriously don’t know where it went. I had a nice, relaxing weekend, and the weather was amazing here, but it was just too short.

Funny thing about living in Mississippi, especially in Jackson – you are either an Ole Miss fan or a Mississippi State fan. People actually ask “State or Ole Miss?” I am neither. I went to the University of Memphis, and I love my tigers. But here, that isn’t an option. It is State or Ole Miss.

So when I went to a local boutique, Frolic, and got this dress, I was asked, “Oh are you headed to the State game?” Apparently, I cannot purchase anything in the burgundy color category without immediately being deemed a State fan (it is football season). No, in fact I was not headed to the State game. I just liked the dress. (Side note – if I HAD to pick one, I suppose I would choose State. Even though a lot of my closet it navy, Memphis plays Ole Miss and I refuse to like them). So, Hail State ?

Dark Florals

Happy Thursday! It is almost Friday, YAY!! I am ready for another weekend.

I don’t know why, but I love dark floral patterns. Years ago, I got a dress from Target that was black with a floral pattern and it was one of my favorite dresses. It has long since bit the dust, but this dress reminds me a little bit of it – the dark background, pink and white flowers, flawy fit. So naturally, when I saw this number at Old Navy last weekend, I was drawn to it. Plus, it will transition so well into the fall. I am looking forward to pairing it with striped blouses and chambray shirts.

On another note, New York Fashion Week starts today. Twice a year I nearly lose my mind with the insane desire to be in NY. I mean, I ALWAYS want to be in New York, but during fashion week, I am totally insane. I spend a ridiculous amount of time reading show recaps, looking at pictures from the show (and the street styles), and stalking all forms of social media for all things NYFW related. This year will be no different. I will probably be tweeting about it like the crazy that I am, so follow along and share your thoughts with me (@nikkihodum).  And no, I am not on Snapchat because I don’t know what that is.

Last LWD

Happy Labor Day, friends! Hopefully you all are enjoying a nice day off. We have had a great long weekend – my parents and grandmother came to visit it, and we had a fun, relaxing time. I wish all weekends were 3 days. Who can we talk to about getting that changed?

I wore this outfit on Saturday evening to dinner.  We went to our favorite restaurant in Jackson La Finestra. It was amazing! They homemake their pasta in the basement of the restaurant, and the menu changes weekly based on what is in season. The food is to die for. If you ever comet to Jackson you absolutely must eat there (but make reservations because it is a TINY place).

Anyway, enough about the food, back to the outfit. I decided since it was Labor Day weekend, I needed to sport a LWD. Not that I wouldn’t throw one on after Labor Day, maybe with a black blazer… But I did this it was appropriate to break a white dress out. And since I love to layer, I decided to throw a gingham blouse underneath.

Happy Thursday friends! Hope you are having a great week. Mine has been busy. We are having to work ahead because of the holiday Monday, so things have been a little crazy at work!

Anyway, this is what I would consider to be a little pre-fall look for here in the south. It is a little darker, but still a sleeveless blouse. And my panama hat + new Zara shoes are the perfect way to complete the look!
