Summer Sale Shopping

Summer Sale Shopping

Skirt: J. Crew; Shirt: Nordstrom; Shoes: Draper James

I love when the stores start getting the next season’s clothes in. Not because of the new items, although I obviously love to see everything new that is coming out, but because of the amazing sales that happen on all the things the stores are trying to get rid of to make room for the next season! And you still have PLENTY of time to wear it, especially if you live in the south because, let’s face it, it is going to be hot for several more months.

I’ll be honest, the end of the season is when I make a several purchases. It is a great time to buy pieces that you know you will wear now, transition into the next season with, and then wear next year. So why not take advantage of these great sales?

There are a few summer pieces I think you should consider purchasing now that the sales are going on.

If you are planning on stocking up for next year, I wouldn’t go too trendy because you know what is super popular now won’t be popular next summer. But if it is a really great deal and you plan on wearing it to death now, then definitely go for it! Like I said, we have plenty of time to rock our summer clothes still.

Also, keep in mind the great transition pieces that you can start wearing now and then transition to fall. The main thing to remember is it is all about what you pair the summery items with. You can make just about anything work for fall, especially early fall, if you pair it with more fall-ish pieces. But we will be coming back to that later.

Here are a few of my favorite items on sale in each of these categories.

4th of July Ready

Confession – I am not a 4th of July person. For me, it always meant that the summer was more than half way over (schools start back in early to mid August here). Even though Charlie and I aren’t in school anymore, there is still something a little sad about it. Also, the fireworks. My dogs HATE fireworks, and 4th of July is the #1 firework holiday.

Maybe if we had fun 4th of July plans or at least a pool to go to, it would be different. If you have a pool and would like to invite me over, I am available.

But whether you have 4th of July plans or not, it is always fun to be festive! Here are a few favorite red, white and/or blue picks.

So what do you have planned for the 4th? Anything exciting?

Gingham Sandals

Gingham Draper James

Today’s look is a little bit 4th of July inspired. Sure, the only red is on my lips, but sometimes that is all you need. Besides, the real star of the show is my sandals!

When I first saw these Draper James x Jack Rogers gingham sandals, I knew they had to be mind. I didn’t order them immediately. To be honest, I was trying to convince myself that I didn’t need them.

You can see that worked out well. I just couldn’t stand it. I HAD to have them. They weren’t supposed to arrive until after our trip, but then I got a shipping email that said that they were supposed to arrive the day before we were leaving. We stayed at my parents the night before we left, since the boys were staying there, that way they could get settled before we left (yes, I am that kind of dog mom). So I was a little stressed they weren’t going to get to us before we left. Then they would sit out for almost a week, and that just wouldn’t work for me. Luckily they arrived.

My dad isn’t the type that notices clothes. He once told my mom, “I have aways loved that on you,” about something she had just bought. He just doesn’t pay attention. Even HE said he liked these shoes! When I wore them to work, I received several compliments.

They were totally worth the money. They are super adorable, comfortable, plus they are made by Jack Rogers so you know they are going to hold up.

And now I think I need the pink striped pair.

White Out

Summer is the time to wear ALL the white pieces. Little white dresses are one of my 5 summer staples. But my love for all things white goes way beyond the LWD. White tops, bottoms, accessories … anything white and I am all for it!

Of course, if you are like me, you have to be a little bit careful when you wear white. I can go days without spilling anything on myself, but as soon as I wear something white, I am going to make a mess. Why is that? I don’t know, but my inability to keep myself spill-free isn’t going to stop me from wearing white!

Here are a few of my favorite white pieces for summer!

So do you love white as much as I do in the summer?

Summer Staples

Summer is here and it is time to start dressing like it! I am all about three things in the summer – light, bright and white. Pastels are perfect for the time of year. And warm weather begs from brights – neons and hot pinks and electric blues. Of course you can never go wrong with whites this time of year.

It is easy to go a little shopping crazy with all the cute pieces out there for summer. But if you don’t have a big budget for summer shopping, I think there are five summer staples you need to have in your closet.
