I never thought I would say this but wallpaper is really making a comeback. And I like it! I have never been a big wallpaper fan. But I’ve noticed it getting more and more popular over the last several years. I mean, Joanna from Fixer Upper now has wallpaper, so it must be a big deal, right? I actually bought some for an accent wall for our master bedroom (for our LAST house) and I hope to some day actually put it up in this house!
Wallpaper is a great way to add some color, some pattern and / or some texture to a room. It is also a good way to hide some imperfections in a wall. I love a wallpaper accent wall. And for a whole room, I think my favorite look is when the wallpaper is the top half of the wall, and then there is a chair rail and either beadboard or paneling below – it helps make the room not feel overwhelmed with pattern.
So I pulled some inspiration from Pinterest to start.
I love palm print wallpaper. We have some in one of the upstairs bathrooms at work, and it is probably a million years old, but I love it. I’ve toyed with this idea at my house, but I don’t think that it would go with the rest of my house!
While I don’t normally go for overly busy, there is something super striking about this dark floral print!
I really love the idea of wallpaper as an accent wall. That way you aren’t fully committing, plus it makes the room not quite as busy.
I love this room and wallpaper so much, naturally. The blue and the white and the gold is a perfect combination. I want this whole room.
I also really love this bathroom. The black and white dots are so cute, and the gold accents are fabulous. There is a similar navy and white spotted wallpaper that I thought about for our downstairs guest bathroom, but I am undecided.
And these are a few of my favorite wallpapers that are available now:
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9
I love this light blue plaid so much. I love that it isn’t overly busy, so it still feels calm and clean, but there is enough going on to make it stand out. I think it would look fantastic in a kitchen or dining room.
You can never go wrong with a stripe, whether it is a bold one like this one or something thinner. Besides the blush, it also comes in a really pretty french blue. I would use this just about anywhere in the house!
This blush floral silhouette is another favorite. I think it would be fantastic in a nursery or a bathroom. It also comes in grey and navy.
I love the watercolor feel of this floral pattern. This is the larger scale pattern, but there is also a petite floral that is smaller scale. I think this would look amazing as an accent wall or in a dining room.
This is the wallpaper I ordered for our bedroom. Our bedroom is black and white with gold, and I wanted this for an accent wall. I had seen a blogger use it in her daughter’s bedroom several years ago and fell in love with it. It comes in several other colors too.
If you are into the more tropical look, this palm print or this pineapple print would be a good choice. I love the kind of updated vintage feel that they both have. I would lean more towards a bathroom with these, but that bedroom with the palm print wallpaper did look really good! I saw an amazing bathroom done with the pineapple print, and now I really want to do that!
This dark floral reminds me a little bit of the dark floral wallpaper from the picture with the barcart. I saw it on a picture on Pinterest with a chair railing and below was some sort of paneling all in white and it looked amazing! (I personally would go with beadboard because I love beadboard).
If you are looking to do black and white on a larger scale, this is a good option that is really different! I love that it is a larger pattern, but there is still a lot of white space so it isn’t overwhelming. This pattern also comes in several color combinations.
And if you aren’t wanting to go all out for wallpaper, but see something you love, I saw an image with 3 large pieces of wallpaper framed , and it hung in a row, so it took up a large section of the wall, but wasn’t the whole wall. Hopefully you can see that image here.
So what are your thoughts on wallpaper? Love it? Hate it? A little bit of both?
I don’t like the busyness of it either, but it looks great in smaller rooms or on just one wall.
