Last year, after Christmas, it dawned on me that I should have posted my Christmas decorations. So I am doing that today. Titling this “Holiday Home Tour is a little misleading, though. It kind of sounds like my whole house is decorated, which it definitely is not. I love people that do that, but I just don’t have the energy. It isn’t so much the putting up the decorations, but the taking down the decorations that overwhelms me. Sure, I love it when people have adorable wreaths hanging everywhere and garland across the windows and little Christmas somethings all over the place. But that is SUPER time consuming. So I have certain areas that I have decorations in and that is it. Honestly I tried to convince Charlie we shouldn’t decorate at all this year, but he was against it.
So here is a little look at my decorations this year. Almost all of this is things that I have had for years.
My fireplace is probably my favorite area. The moss reindeer are by far my favorite decorations. I got them several years ago at a florist in Jackson, MS. They are extremely fragile, as you can imagine.
I spent a lot of time last year getting my bar cart just the way I wanted it. And then I took pictures so I wouldn’t forget this year. Actually I did that all over and it saved me a lot of time this year. I also pack my things by rooms as well for the most part.
Last year was the first year that we put up a big tree in several years. And we always have the same discussion (fight isn’t the right word), even when we put up the tiny tree – Charlie wants a star on the top of the tree. And I say no and put a bow on the tree. I don’t like stars and I love bows, and guess who decorates the tree? Me.
And no, I have no Christmas presents wrapped yet. I am a Christmas failure.
I added the garland with the bows last year to the stairs and I love it. It is time consuming, and requires a lot of ribbon, but I love the way it looks. I’m hoping to be able to salvage the bows so I can reuse them next year.
This is my entry hall. I’d love to add a cute little wreath to the mirror like you see on Pinterest but I have no idea how they get them to stay.
And finally my kitchen, which is just a little bit – the plaid placemats, the pitcher and the little elf. Maybe next year I will do a little more.
So do you do go all out with your decorating? Do the bare minimum? Somewhere in between? I place myself in the in between category.
