If you are in need something super festive and possibly slightly over the top, my suggestion would be to reach for some tulle. If the holidays aren’t the time to break out all of the tulle, I don’t know when is the time. Because honestly, you should definitely be a little extra this time of year.
I have had this skirt for several years (at least 5), and although I don’t wear it very often (I mean, I would probably get some side eyes at work if I wore this), it is something that I won’t part with any time soon. It may seem slightly impractical if you aren’t a ballerina, but it really is the perfect piece for the holidays! I wore it to an office Christmas party and to see the Nutcracker. Plus, you can easily switch out the top for a different look.
Yes, you can go all out and pair a tulle skirt with a sequin top (which I have done before), but this time I went with a simple turtleneck and flats. It makes it a little more casual. The pops of red in the shoes and the belt give it a definite holiday feel. You could pair this with a blazer and tee or a blouse for something a little different. And it would be super festive with a fair isle sweater like this one (especially in red) or this one.
Of course, this skirt has been gone for a long time, but there are a couple of tulle skirts in the Atlantic Pacific x Halogen collection for Nordstrom that are amazing. The pink layered skirt is honestly to die for, and I also really love the polka dot maxi skirt. If you are thinking you want to give tulle a go, but a skirt seems a bit much, this dress has a bit of tulle on the hem and is a little more subdued than a full tulle skirt.
So do you like to go all out for holidays when it comes to how you dress? Will you be embracing some tulle this December?
