We are about to start working on our kitchen!! Our living room is done (for now) except for some finishing touches (hanging some pictures, the curtains, etc), so we are ready to move on to the kitchen. I thought I would share some of my planning and inspiration with you.
This is a look at the before (see the whole house before pictures here).
Ugly right? Super dark, super dated. The backsplash is chipping off, there are marker drawings on the cabinets … I cannot wait until we get the kitchen done. (Note – these were taken before we moved in…)
Most of the house will be painted Benjamin Moore Navajo white on the walls, with Benjamin Moore Dove White for the trim. It is light and makes everything feel so much more open.
We are going to paint the dark brown cabinets white. I want to redo the counters with a white marbled material, probably quartz or granite. Originally I wanted marble, but a friend told me you have to have it re-sealed a couple of times a year and you have to be more careful with it, and that sounds like way too much trouble.
I want to do a white subway tile to replace the current backsplash. Originally I was going to do a marbled backsplash as well, but I love the white with the marble. It is just so clean looking!
We have gone back and forth about the sink. Ours was put in really poorly, so we are definitely replacing it. I desperately want a farm sink. But they are pretty expensive, and since we are keeping the existing cabinets, we have a very limited number of options for the size we need (plus I want 2 basins and white). We haven’t come to a decision on this yet…
I would love to eventually replace the light fixtures too. We have a giant long ugly fluorescent light above the kitchen, and a light fixture in the eat-in area that is above where our table is. I hate them both. But that will be later. I am guessing the fluorescent thing will be a big challenge, and I am just not ready for that.
