A few months ago, I wrote about my great love for the Draper James circle dress, which is still going strong. And for fall, they now have my magnolia circle dress in navy! Now, I know that I don’t need the exact same dress in the exact same print in a different color. But I LOVE the navy so much!
So if you are looking to get this dress (and I HIGHLY recommend it!) I am showing you some ways I am styling my lighter blue version for fall. And really these styling ideas can work for just about any summery dress that you want to work for fall as well. I really believe in season fluidity – making a normally summery piece work for fall, etc.
So my number one way to take a summer dress into fall is to top it off with a blazer and add some booties. Simple, classic, chic, and perfect for the office. This is a great look for when you want feel a little more like fall, but it is still really hot so you need the option to shed the blazer. Of course, you could also opt for a dark colored cardigan, but I really love to crispness of a blazer.
I love to layer, and adding a blouse (long or short sleeve) is a great way to make a summery dress work for fall. This is perfect for all those cute sleeveless summer dresses you have hanging in your closet. I do it ALL of the time (here is an example of making a summery dress work for early spring). You could also go for a long sleeve t-shirt. You can do flats or booties with this look and you are ready to go!
The third way is great for the weekends – just add a jean jacket and a pair of sneakers! If you don’t have a jean jacket yet, the only question I have for you is WHY NOT? You can wear it almost all year (it won’t quite do the trick in the winter unless you really layer up). And they really don’t go out of style.
So those are just a few ways to take a summery dress into fall. What are your favorite ways to style summer dresses for fall?
