I wish that I could say that I had a great month and was able to work out. But it isn’t true. Last month, I said that I hurt my knee at the very beginning of April, and unfortunately I am still having all kinds of issues.
After about 6 weeks of pain, I finally bit the bullet and went to the doctor. I was having a lot of pain in my left knee, and it started spreading up to my left hip and down to my left ankle. I felt strongly that the spreading was due to favoring it.
The doctor said that my kneecap isn’t tracking correctly. So instead of going where it is suppose to, it is pulling to the side and rubbing the cartilage, which is causing my pain. Apparently this is super common for runners. I am to wear a knee brace, do some strengthening exercises (think leg lifts), lots and lots of stretching (tight muscles can make it worse), and really take it easy. He said I would be able to go back to working out and running, but I would have to really really ease into it.
So I am benched for a little while. It has been about a month since I went to the doctor. I am not in the amount of discomfort that I was. But it still isn’t right. Memorial Day weekend, I spend a good bit of the day Saturday shopping. And that killed me. I had issues the rest of the weekend.
Until I am feeling a lot better, I am not going to push my luck. I just don’t want to have a set back. But I am losing my mind not being able to work out. I have really bad anxiety, and working out and running helps keep it in check. I have felt a dramatic increase in my anxiety since I haven’t been able to work out.
Even though I can’t work out, I can still look the part and sport cute athleisure clothes! Here are some of the things on my wish list.
Does anyone have any experience with what I have going on with my knee cap? According to google it is called Chondromalacia Patella.
How are your fitness goals going? Hopefully better than mine!
