Today I am sharing some before pictures of our new house, which I not lovingly at all call The Money Pit. I am warning you in advance – it is bad. We bought fixer upper of sorts. Let me preface by saying that the people we bought the house from were disgusting. They had 3 children under the age of 5 with another on the way, lots of animals and they lived in FILTH. The house was a complete disaster. Like DIRTY. And they didn’t take care of it at all. (They also left us a cat and 2 kittens because they didn’t want them, and all kinds of dirty pots and pans in the backyard for us to deal with… I could go on and on about these disgusting people, but I won’t).
But we bought it anyway. The houses go SO fast in the area we wanted and the price range we needed (like 24 hours fast). We knew we had a lot of work to do, but once the house was ours, we realized just how much we had to do.
Part of the living room. They had all of these annoying quote stickers all over the wall. It was a pain to get them off. The fireplace was a disaster. The tile was all broken. And the mantel was way too short. We just finished redoing it, and I can’t wait to show the afters!
The other side of the living room. Anyone have any good ideas what to do up on that weird ledge? I kind of want to do book shelves with a Beauty and the Beast rolling ladder but I feel that perhaps that might not be the safest idea…
Kitchen… can you tell a WHOLE lot of cleaning went on? I had a lady come in and clean (because I just didn’t want to know). It took her 3 full days because it was so bad.
Eat in kitchen area that leads out to the backyard.
Before we even moved in we had to pull up the master bedroom carpet because it was so filthy. We put down laminate (I hate carpet). Eventually we will pull up the carpet in the other two bedrooms and the bonus room upstairs. But we haven’t gotten that far.
I don’t have a picture of the nasty carpet. But here it is with the carpet pulled out.
And with the laminate (we couldn’t afford hardwood).
Our really weird master bathroom. Let me start with THE ROOM IS 2 DIFFERENT COLORS. And I am pretty sure it was on purpose. 2 of the walls are mint green and 2 are turquoise. You can tell in the picture that shows the tub and the shower. Also, the walls are really weird. It is like they put up wallpaper and did a terrible job, and then painted over the wallpaper. So the walls are really bumpy in some places. We have yet to figure out how to fix that. Also, they painted part of the doors! How weird is that???
Dining room that the hubs will be using as an office.
Obnoxious orange guest bedroom
Less obnoxious blue guest bedroom
Bonus room upstairs that has giant red stains in the carpet and isn’t air conditioned.
We also had to get a new roof. We have only been in the house a few months, and we already had to get a new roof. We also had a leak under our sink, the air conditioner stopped working, the outside electricity stopped working, the garage light fixture went out …
So besides the new roof and the laminate in the bedroom, we have also repainted the master bedroom, redone my closet, redone the fireplace, repainted the living room, entry hall and office.
I plan on doing a closet before and after (along with all the issues we had), and when the living room is done I will do some posts on that as well.
So this is our new home sweet home.
