In August, I wrote about my top 10 wardrobe staples every woman needs in her closet. And every month I am highlighting one of those staples, and telling you WHY you need it. This month’s staple is a fun pair of shoes.
So I have already covered the need for a classic pair of pumps, but I also think it is important to have some fun shoes in the mix as well. And I consider fun shoes to be a closet staple, which may seem weird. Almost all of the pieces I have focused on have been classic pieces that are pretty timeless. But I think a more fun pair of shoes can really make an outfit. It can take something fairly basic (a simple black dress, a pencil skirt, a pair of jeans), and really take a look to an entirely new level.
Do I think you need to run out and spend $1000 on a pair of shoes you won’t wear again next year? Absolutely not. I do think you should spend a little extra on a pair you will wear for several years and for several occasions.
This is a pretty wide open one, in my opinion. If red is your very favorite color, then you should splurge on a pair of red pumps. If blue is more your thing, then go for those blue wedges you will wear again and again. I bought a pair of pale pink loafers earlier this spring that I wear ALL of the time. Just keep in mind that you want something that isn’t too terribly trendy and that you will want to and be able to wear again and again. Could you wear it to work AND for a date? Would it work for a party and brunch? If you are a flats kind of girl, go for a fun flat. If heels are your thing, maybe you need a bright pair of pumps or wedges. And it may be that you need something fun for summer (like an espadrille) and something for winter (like booties).
So these are a few of my picks for fun shoes:
I think all of these shoes will work for years to come. They add a little extra interest to an outfit, but they aren’t trendy.
And that concludes my top 10 wardrobe staples! But that doesn’t mean I am done with this topic. There will be more to come in the next few months!
